J2EE Architect - Work From Home
Essential Responsibilities
Act as a primary technical interface to the customer and/or implementation teams for system deployment, operations, and performance
Advise customers on appropriate implementation strategies, including environment sizing, high availability, and disaster recovery
Support the Sales team during technical discussions by leading discussions and presenting information about the deployment and operation of the Company's applications
Contribute to the establishment of best practices for system monitoring, capacity planning, and application instrumentation
Works with the project manager to assign priorities and manage bugs against release criteria to release the software on schedule
Train and assist other members of the Company team (both Software Development and Quality Assurance) on system installation, configuration, and operation
Install and configure integrated test environments for Quality Assurance related activities both internal and at the customer site
Document and test procedures for the installation and configuration of the Company software
Provide input to the refinement and evolution of the Company software platform
Review and provide feedback on the non-functional test plans and test results from the Software Development team
Maintain knowledge transfer through wiki and other mechanisms
Review and input into architecture with relation to HA and scalability
Assist the requirements team in the definition of NFRs (Non-Functional Requirements)
Required Skills:
Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor or Master s degree in Computer Science or related field
Requires a minimum of 4-6 years experience in enterprise J2EE application deployment, operation, and/or performance testing
Requires a strong working knowledge of J2EE concepts and technologies
Requires experience conducting performance tests and operational tests (i.e. non-functional tests to evaluate fail-over, availability, disaster recovery, etc.) of J2EE enterprise applications
Requires experience installing systems from the ground up, including the setup and allocation of storage, installation of software packages/RPMs, and configuration of the system (including kernel parameter changes)
Requires an understanding of network configuration, including the use of firewalls, VLANs, and routers/switches
Requires experience with the clustering and tuning of J2EE enterprise application servers, preferably with Websphere
Requires experience with the installation, configuration, and operation of relational databases, preferably with Oracle
Requires experience with load balancing network devices such as Cisco CSS or Local Director
Requires experience with the installation and configuration of web servers, preferably with IBM HTTP Server or Apache
Several years experience scripting in a UNIX environment (i.e. shell scripting, Perl, etc.)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to understand and communicate technical information
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
Must have the ability to work independently, as well as work as a team player
Must have the ability to coach others
Must have experience working with and in front of customers (a consulting background would be advantageous)
