Veterinary Assistant
  • Thoroughly clean clinic and animal areas daily, including cages, floors, dishes, bedding, etc.
  • Spot clean animal and public areas throughout the day.
  • Feed the animals, including providing special diets as needed.
  • Monitor the health of the animals on an ongoing basis and rapidly identify any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral)and immediately report it to the supervisor or veterinary technician.
  • Medicate animals as directed.
  • Provide treatment and care for animals including vaccination, examination, performance of medical treatments (i.e. bandaging, nail clipping, ear cleaning etc.), and assist with euthanasia as needed.
  • Monitor pre and post surgery animals for any difficulty with anesthesia.
  • Perform laboratory tests.
  • Maintain patient records by accurately recording treatments and test results on patient charts and other medical records.
  • Admit and release animals in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner and inform the volunteers, staff, and the public of any pertinent medical information on the animal's care.
  • Maintain inventory of medications, order drugs and treatment supplies.
  • Do laundry, cleaning medical equipment, dishes, washing windows, cleaning and mopping as needed.
  • Provide a healthy, safe, clean and pleasant environment and facilities for the animals and the public.
  • Provide transportation for animals as needed, to and from vet appointment, for adoption events, to other shelters, etc.
